The current package icons has "Yes/No" labels to indicate if the add-on is installed or not. The "Yes" label has a red background :

I think that to visually make more easily the difference between the "Yes" and the "No", it should be Green :

Ideally the package icons should be replaced with previews and the installed/featured status could be indicated in colored text best (overlay icons on top of preview would have too high chance of clashing with preview image).

Kinsu, I agree, though I find that putting bright red next to bright green is not so pretty :/ maybe we can improve the color palette?

OK, but which color ?
The green is the opposite of the red, and it's also a color code (yes = green / no = red)...

Wouldn't it be possible to use the kart's logo once it's downloaded (for the case of karts of course)?
And track previews for tracks as was suggested...(but those should be in the addons...)

I was originally just posting these icons as a quick fix for this little GUI problem (as I know developers are very busy ^^)... but let's brainstorm !

I think it would be clearer to show the installed add-ons only in a "downloaded" tab, and to show an individual icon for each type of add-on (track/kart, maybe new types later ?), if it cannot be done for each different add-on

Splitting it up to "installed addons" as well would make sense yeah.
But I think it's best to have tracks and karts separated like now, so it's easier to find what you're looking for. Me, as an example, I don't care much for karts (yet) since they have mostly the same behaviour as of now, so I don't play much with addon karts. Tracks, on the other hand...

Yes, so for not installed add-ons : tracks & karts tabs. The installed ones can be merged in the installed tab I think.
(ideally, this could be a single list with filters : type, author, featured, installed ... )

Regarding splitting them; I think better not since we're just out of screen space :P

And i agree displaying the kart icon would be ideal for karts (not sure what to display for tracks)

IMHO: tracks should show a shot of the track, karts should show kart preview render.

For tracks, what about using smaller sizes of the images on the track selection screen?

This size depends on your current resolution. I agree sometimes they are too big...
