[solved] STK Sound Effect (SFX) Liberation

Auria {l Wrote}:And, you will be happy, I had placed the race_start and pre_race_start sounds in place just to test what they sounded like, and I realized I accidentally committed them :P so them too are in game now

Haha! They will not be reverted then? Or should I not mark them as 'replaced' just yet? :)

About 'crash':
Current sound (needs to be replaced): http://supertuxkart.svn.sourceforge.net ... g?view=log
My old attempt (bad) http://omploader.org/vOXAwbQ

It is hard to describe the current sound. It definitely is not realistic and not very loud/aggressive (which I think is good). If anybody has ideas about how to replicate a suitable sound or how to describe it, so I know what to search for on freesound, please post!

I will start a thread on freesound.org, asking for suggestions as well :)

I edited two sounds, trying to replace crash.ogg:

1.
a) http://omploader.org/vY3ZpMA based on http://www.freesound.org/people/Halleck/sounds/121657/
b) http://omploader.org/vY3ZqaA based on the same, louder and shorter than the above. This one is my favorite replacement so far.
License/Author: cc-by3 - layered and mixed by qubodup <qubodup.net> - recorded by Halleck <http://www.freesound.org/people/Halleck/>

2.
http://omploader.org/vY3ZpMQ based on http://www.freesound.org/people/Halleck/sounds/121657/ (thanks for pointing this one out!)
License/Author: cc0 - recorded and edited by qubodup <qubodup.net>

I used sox to convert to 44100hz, for example:
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
sox ~/121657__halleck__metal-crash-3-editforstkcrash2.wav -r 44100 ../data/sfx/crash.ogg

When you touch another kart, some sounds seem to repeat with longer or shorter delay/gap than others. This might depend on rate. (fewer hz = faster to repeat?)

I tested the sounds and like 1b best. Opinions? :D

SuperTuxKart has no non-free sound files in it's current svn revision any more!

Thank you for supporting me with feedback and for bearing with me and my amateur sound editing. Also: congratulations! :)

Next on my list: Trigger Rally :)

Note: the data/sfx/License.txt does not require the three license explanations at the bottom any more

Personally I don't like the three new "blings" at the start; they aren't soft enough IMO. But I can probably bear with it; it's good we're at last 100% DFSG-compliant by default, so our Debian and Ubuntu packager doesn't have to replace them himself. :)
