Improved palmtree texture

Hi again!

I have again tryed to improve one of the palmtree textures. It is the old texture with my own made shading/bump mapping. I hope you like it.

Old texture:

New texture:

I guess the license has to be the same as the original work. If not you can do with it what you want.

Hi,

I'm not sure about this one honestly, the overlay texture is maybe a bit repetitive?

Better?

well any I think any bump motif should follow the lines of the leaf, it's a bit weird to see the bump perfectly horizontal when the leaf has slanted lines

In future, please try to show texture replacements in context as well so we can see what the in-game difference is. Sometimes it is difficult to know how a texture update will look in-game just by looking at the texture. (But please do always show the texture itself too!)

Ok thanks for your feedback. Tryed to get it done.

Next texture is the pyramid wall:

Well to be honest I don't quite like the big stripes that are visible in your texture

Yes, it's better, thanks :) But personally I'm not sure if it's better than the previous texture. What do other people here think?

I sligthly prefer the new one because the old one is fuzzy...

What exactly would you make different or prefer you of the previous one?

The mew one is better but the pyramids need remodelling in general. First problem is the slanted texture on some sides of the pyramids - this should surely be easy to fix? Bigger problem is that the real Pyramids are not slopped, they are stepped.

I could make a new pyramid model but someone has to put it into the track. I had no luck in the past editing the tracks. :x

I'm not sure that the ratio "graphic improvements/triangle count increase" makes it worth remodeling the pyramids stepped... Since most of the time, we're focused on the road, it's rather the global shape of the pyramid that is important, IMHO (though you're right, real pyramids are not triangles).

It would appear that I am wrong anyway. There are two types of pyramids and the Egyptian Pyramids would seem to be intentionally sloped (as opposed to slopped due to degradation), in contrast to Mexican Pyramids which are stepped.

However, I was also going to say your fears for polycounts are unfounded. The Pyramid steps of a typical Mexican Pyramid are not going to be particularly high with only 10 or so steps. Each step can be done with 8 quads.

Hmmm... I think this should be an Egyptian theme or am I wrong? So we go with the slopped one right? :)

@ Auria: Do you think the bricks should look more ancient?

I don't like the texture in http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/i ... d-png.html because it is very sharp and in contrast to the scenery. The tiling of the texture too easy to see..

A new try:

And now woth less contrast:

The texture is quite nice but I agree with qubodup that for pyramids maybe the tiling is too obvious?

How can I improve that?

Maybe by making the bricks bigger? and less contrat between the bricks
