Karts making tutorial improvements

Just to inform : I am uploading files on STK's wiki to test the tutorial page with images. It will come out soon, I will then ask for back-reading (english mistakes and maybe wrong statements) before publishing it ;)

This are point I notice to add to wiki, may I submit them to you ?

frame n      item size 0.001 position inside kart or character
frame n+1  item size 0.001 wished position (apparition point)
frame n+2  item size 1.0 wished position (ready to use)

Animation must be defined by "start" frame and "end" frame

Character and kart must be separated but in the same mesh

Animation, start by using straight pose to make straight start-winning and start-losing frames because character standing on relax pose

In NLA Windows, turn menu to nearest frame
NLA-Selection-menu.png

Physics of kart depend of height width length and global size

OK, I will add your recommendations. Note that the main page of the tutorial is actually not about technical use of blender : it just explains the STK specific points, so I will only include the physics and kart/character separation precision in it.

(By the way, why does the character have to be separated from the kart, but in the same mesh ? And I'm not sure if I get it right : does it mean that they should not have common vertices, but being in the same object ?)

However I will add the other ones in another page, which explains and links ressources about how modeling, texturing and animating in Blender.

I planned to create :

- A "How to make karts for STK" page,
- A "Blender ressources for modeling, texturing and animating" page,
- A little "How to make a quick, easy & nice kart shadow" page,
- A "Checklist for exporting karts" page (very short sum up of the first page),
- Maybe a "kart ressources index" page which lists all ressources about karts ?

If anyone else wants to add a detail or advices that are not in the current tutorial, just tell !

Kinsu, for the last two I'd recommend to just merge them into the first one. The summary could be at the bottom of the page, while the index could be at the top. I don't think we need separate articles for them. :)

Yes, this is not a bad idea to show the checklist on the index page... I first imagined it as a simple guide page without any content, but it could also sum up the important STK specific points.

The idea of merging the two meshes was needed because of a bug in irrlicht 1.7

HOWEVER irrlicht 1.8 has corrected this issue and as such this point is no more necessary :)

OK. I guess this is related to the armatures problem I had ^^.

I wouldlike to delete som images I have uploaded to the wiki (wrong format, ...), but it seems I need some rights to do it (or maybe I just didn't find the way). Would it be possible to be granted these rights ?

I added the shadow tutorial, if anyone finds mistakes please tell me (or correct).

thanks for interest in documentation :) I granted you rights, please tell me if it works

I've just finished the 4 following pages :
- Kart resources index (with the checklist),
- New Kart tutorial, the idea compared to the previous ones is to remove Blender-only-related content to focus on STK-related content, so it is shorter and clearer, and to cover the whole kart creation, from draft to ingame kart.
- Blender resources page, here goes the Blender-related content,
- Kart shadow tutorial.

Is it possible to change the destination page of the "Wiki > Get involved > Making kart" link, to the kart resources index page ?

Also, I'm pretty sure I made english mistakes, and maybe some informations concerning STK's internal way to work are not totally exact, so it would need to be reviewed. If you have the time, please do it :)

EDIT : Corrected "ressources" to "resources"

@STKRudy85 : I did not have enough content to create a Blender animation tutorial page, so I could not add these pieces of information :
STKRudy85 {l Wrote}:frame n item size 0.001 position inside kart or character
frame n+1 item size 0.001 wished position (apparition point)
frame n+2 item size 1.0 wished position (ready to use)

Animation, start by using straight pose to make straight start-winning and start-losing frames because character standing on relax pose

In NLA Windows, turn menu to nearest frame

Maybe if you add more content this page will be worth being created ?

Kinsu,

VERY nice work, thanks!!

I only skimmed through the pages, I will fully read them later. For now I removed the requirement to have kart icon in 32x32 and 64x64, it's not true that we have this requirement.

Also little grammar error, in english the word "resources" has only one "s"

Otherwise very nice job :)

Hi,

I read through the tutorial. I did a few changes here and there, mostly minor precisions. Very good job, thanks :) I made your new page the default linked from "Get Involved"

OK, I have just corrected this "resources" (what a mess when there is an error in a page title ! >_>' ).
Auria {l Wrote}:For now I removed the requirement to have kart icon in 32x32 and 64x64, it's not true that we have this requirement.

Yes, I forgot to precise it was only for convenience. Could I add something like this (so people will maybe be more encline to add the smaller icon) : "An optional smaller icon (eg. 32x32) can be added, to avoid resize-created alias. " ?

EDIT : Or maybe this smaller icon will be removed from the kart exporter ?

I will translate it in French when I have more free time.

Well I have already added a sentence like this in the tutorial. Maybe you could add a similar sentence on the checklist too if you wish

What do you mean by :

{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
The armature bones have a 0 roll.

http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Kar ... rces_index

en français STP ?

Oui c'est vrai que la tournure de phrase n'est peut-être pas des plus claires. Je voulais dire :

«L'attribut "roll" des os de l'armature est fixé à 0.»
