It's quite a nice start :) but I must admit I find there's something not quite right about the chord progression used by the organ. A little hard to explain precisely... they don't seem to go too well together maybe?

I think I have fixed what you were talking about. The reason that was there was because at first the entire song was in a different key and when I changed it I must have forgot to change the organ...

As an off-topic note, I drew some fan art... Where would I post it? Could I post it here, or should I make another topic? :p

thanks, much better. Now the same chord progression is repeated a bit too much around the song I think? From 0:16 to 0:50 the chord progression is very similar. If this could be diversified just a little I think the song could be better. Maybe something a bit like the melody of the intro could be added at some point between 0:16 to 0:50 to introduce change? The rest of the song is very good so keep it up :)

Also from 1:58 to 2:15 IMO it feels a little empty. Maybe again a little melody similar to the intro could be added to make it feel less empty?

I added different chords at 0:27 and a background melody at 0:17 to 0:33.

This is good work, thanks :) I will integrate the song, good work.

A few things :
1) we would like to have a lossless or very-little-compressed version of it if possible
2) we would need your agreement to release this under CC-BY-SA 3.0 or the license of your choice
3) this is my personal taste, I would like if other people could comment : maybe the volume of the organ could be reduced a little? I think the organ is a tiny bit too loud compared to the percussions. Again opinions welcome on this

What size do you want the file? I can give you a ~4.4 MB file if you really want

Lets just say anything I release on here will be CC-BY-SA unless I say otherwise

Ok I'll see if I can make it a bit quieter

Here I have what I think is the final version of Blackhill Mansion (released under CC-BY-SA 3.0 of course :p )
I can give a higher quality version if you want me to.
When it's in the game, just call it Demon Hill or something cheesy, I don't really mind what it's called.

maybe then you could put that in your signature? just to make it more clear and so people don't have to ask each time?
Some people are like slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't help smiling when you shove them down the stairs.

Thanks, it's committed :)

and yes a low-compression version would be a good idea I think. 4-5 mbs should not be a problem

Well, VLC sucks, so the highest I could convert to without everything crashing was 192 kb/s. :( I converted overworld as well.
You should probably change your Music guidelines page, it says that you want 2mb files.

I finally managed to get Blackhill Mansion working in my game, it looks quite nice but it is a really short track, and there's not much in the way of scenery. I have a lot of ideas about how to make some of the existing tracks more fun/better to drive on. Maybe I could help with track design as well as music? ;)

well yes we want 2MB files for in-game, but we also like higher quality versions to keep just in case

maybe you can try exporting from audacity, it lets you select ogg compression level

Thanks I uploaded them to media repo :)

In the what's next department for music, I must say I am unsure, our music set is getting quite complete now. Well there is "Boom boom boom" which many people hate, though I myself like it, so go figure ^^ Perhaps a new song for the egyptian track (in the same style as the one we currently have, but a little more egyptian sounding!). I guess "on the river" could also be replaced by original music

There is also the option to have separate 'fast' version of the music for the last round of the track. This is already implemented in STK ... we are just not using it (we tried playing existing songs faster, but that was not good enough).

Not sure if we would include a faster version with the normal package of the game (to keep the size small enough), but for 0.8.1 we could finally try to support additional music downloads.

Sorry for not posting anything recently

I have been working on music for Shifting Sands, it might be a while before it's good enough for me to upload. I have also made some improvements to Blackhill Mansion. Basically I was listening to it and realized that about half the song is almost completely out of key  , so I fixed that up, however Im not sure it if actually sounds any better, but I probably only think that because Im used to the old song. There's a low quality and a high quality version in a zip file in the attachments.

So you just want slightly faster versions of the music?

Well, you asked for what else to do ;)

I have to admit I can't see myself having time before 0.8 to do any work on supporting audio addon packages. But I would certainly be interested to add this later.

I am not sure how much faster, or perhaps even a slight variation or ...

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Hi, sorry for the late answer.

I'm not sure, it sounds quite higher than before, I'm not sure it's better? Maybe it can be lowered again, I think this spooky track is better-suited for a lower music
Also there's something that sounds not quite right about the first 16 seconds IMO, but I have a hard time saying what. The rest is OK though

For faster music, in my opinion, this could be a "nice to have eventually". Nothing urgent, and besides I don't think we have time to code the transition between normal and fast music

The only difference is that some notes have been changed. I wasn't really sure which one sounded better myself so if you want to use the older one it's fine with me :)
