music from Dundersylt

Postby Dundersylt » 25 May 2010, 23:53

I'm working on some songs for Super Tux Kart and this is my first complete song, I will post an up speed version of this song. I usually use Open ModPlug Tracker and various VSTs and samples :)

Hi,

there is potential here :)
the parts with strings are a bit weird; the flute bits are very fitting, however.

What bothers me a bit more is licensing; you are talking about "various samples", do you have the permission to use them in a song released under some open licenses? If you've been ripping samples from various mods we will be unable to accept any song containing them

Great minds think alike. :) ModPlug is great! Anyway, where do you get your samples? I need some badly.

Thanks for the feedback :)

About the samples:

I haven't rip any samples from other mods for use in this song , I have used some free gm-soundfonts(which i've converted to dls for use in modplug) and some VSTs (most free and some commercial ones).

Here comes a last lap speed-up version of the Pyramids song, and a short race start and race finish song.

Hi,

the little songs are nice :) Joerg, our project manager, is currently on leave so little is happening at this point; but I'm keeping them around and we'll probably find some use to them :)

But you'll need to explicitely state the license under which you release them for us to be able to use them

All songs are released under the Creative Commons BY SA license.

Here comes a small composition made for race results :)

Hi,

Thanks

I understand if you don't have time, I know you're quite busy running this forum and you're doing a great job :)

I have composed 2 new songs (although one of them is just 3 seconds) and more songs are on the way :)

Amazing ;)

I read in a website that the better point of STK was his music .
For me you're as great as the great first composers of music for this game.

Great music - we will have to support for some special effects (e.g. race summary, last lap fanfare) to STK, but I will get to this as soon as I am finished with the animation support.

Thanks!

I will probably upload a new song tonight or tomorrow(it depends on how long the mixing and mastering takes)

Those are some of the sites I'm getting samples and VST instruments/plugs from, I'll check for more websites with samples and vst plugs:)

Hi,

just to keep you in the loop:
Dundersylt {l Wrote}:

I've just added the last lap fanfare to the STK trunk. We are not entirely sure when to play it - for now it is played once the first kart starts its last lap, but other options are possible (once the first player kart starts the last lap, or once for each kart, or for each player kart starting the last lap, ...) - any thoughts? My idea of playing it once only is that the fanfare acts as a notification for all players that the race is about to be finished soon, and no nitro should be saved anymore.

Cheers,
Joerg

I think the last lap alert should trigger for each human player as they begin their last lap, but not computer for players. Especially if a split-screen
multiplayer mode is going to be supported in addition to netplay.

Why shouldn't it trigger when the first kart that crosses the finish line, i.e. the first kart, human or AI, to go into the last lap?
Possibly accompanied by a notice: "Hurry! Time to make you move!" (or something along those lines) if you are not the first to cross the finish line...

Absolutely the way forward. That is also why the music speeds up in the MarioKarts - to rush you a bit.

OK, race start song is added, too.

Thanks a lot!
