input config error

input config error

Postby chaorace » 26 Aug 2010, 13:25

Okay, well being new to STK and just recently (six months ago) came to the linux ubuntu scene, I need an absolute beginner's guide to fixing this error:

"Your input config file is not compatible with this version of STK
Please re-configure your key-bindings"

I am using Linux Ubuntu maverick meerkat alpha 2
I am using STK .7 alpha 2 installed with SVN
I have the most recent video drivers and irrlicht packages
the game runs but crashes on the track select screen
I CAN use a track by going to the challenges screen

Hi,

the crash is not normal. Maybe it was fixed in development trunk, a lot happened since 0.7 alpha 2 (hopefully)

Now, you should just need to go in the options screen and configure your input keys. PS: I don't see the image you apparently wanted to post

Thanks I'll post a link to the picture http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/4356/screenshotpo.png
The error message is gone.
However, even when I change the keyboard config it still crashes when I try to go to the track selection screen.
I can still do the challenges...

Update:
I changed the resolution and I could get to the track select screen (problem with the mesa or opengl packages?) but when I try to scroll using the arrows it crashes again...
I should try updating the dependencies... could you list EVERY possible package I MAY need to install for STK to work?

Re-update:
I get an supported texture format error in the terminal and this: the focus dispatcher in kart selection screen can't find the widget for player 0

I don't think this can be caused by a dependency problem, the game would not run without them.

when I change the keyboard config it still crashes when I try to go to the track selection screen

Ok, but if you close STK and re-open it, then it works? (it's important that we know precisely how to reproduce the bug)

I changed the resolution and I could get to the track select screen (problem with the mesa or opengl packages?) but when I try to scroll using the arrows it crashes again...

Do you mean can't? Cause if you can then it's all normal ;)
Now, I know bugs with resolution changing were found and fixed shortly after the 0.7 alpha 2 release, so next release should be much more stable in this regard.

In fact looks like I found a similar problem, may be it is connected with the problem above.
Open STK, choose the button 'Race' using arrows, then choose the kart and the track. (I also made it by arrows)
When appears the box with previous results and the button 'Start the race' push the button 'down' and STK segfaults.
Here is the output from terminal:

Well I fixed the boom boom music error, but couldn't fix the rest...

I fixed it because SVN saves boom_boom_boom.music as Boom_boom_boom.music. This slight naming error causes STK to believe boom_boom_boom.music is absent. All I did was change the file name of boom_boom_boom.music.

Could SVN errors be the cause of my problems? I dunno.

No, SVN couldn't be the reason of your errors. SVN is just a way to receive files from Internet. It is a bad comparison, but it is something like http or ftp.
Let's wait for Auria's or hiker's answer, may be your error is already fixed in newer version (from SVN) of Supertuxkart. :)

Hi again, the music issues have been fixed in SVN, thanks for reporting :)

The main developers of STK :
1) develop with music off
2) use Windows and OSX, both of which are case-insensitive

this means we are prone to miss issues like that, so thanks for testing and reporting

Joerg and I both have Linux partitions, it's just that my linux partition is giving me a lot of trouble with e.g. audio and graphics card drivers, so I don't use it very often for production

If he's using the alpha 2 version, it is an update to co from svn to him. :P

Get the SVN revision if you feel so inclined :) but we should hopefully release another alpha/beta/... "soonish" for people to keep up to date with the latest changes

soonish? YES!!!
I was curious when a new release was coming out ( I looked at the dates of the previous releases and I figured a new release was due)
I have a few ideas but I'll post it in a separate thread because this thread is a little off topic

Yes, this release has taken ages. We have added a lot of features, and that took a lot longer than anticipated.

I have started to work mostly on bug fixes now, so hopefully within a few weeks we can do a last alpha (or perhaps even beta) release, so that we can get the remaining tracks ported (or replaced with new/better ones), and then we are ready for a RC.

MCMic {l Wrote}:You have no main developers under GNU/Linux

I have access to a linux system I can use for testing and verification (e.g. build and install procedure), so that's not really a problem.

But why haven't they still seen the light :eew:

But I have - after ages of developing in Linux darkness, I've found OSX ... and Visual Studio ;) ;)

A bit more seriously: No need for a flame war here - I work with Linux professionally, so overall I am quite happy with it. But I have to admit that using VS was a huge step forward for me in developing STK.

Cheers,
