Untranslatable strings

I think I found some untranslatable strings in the dev version of the game:
- “Anisotropic”, “Bilinear” and “Trilinear”. Those words appear next to the “Texture filtering” setting in the extended graphics settings menu. (I already mentioned it somewhere else; I repeat it for completeness.)
- “Guest”. You find this word in the profile selection screen. It is in the PO file but it seems to be ignored. Need to check.
- “Princess Sara”. The PO files allow only to translate “Sara” at the moment but not “Princess”
Feel free to add to the list if you found something, too.

Hi,
I have fixed 'Sara', the 'princess' thing was an accident, the real name will remain 'Sara'.
As for 'anisotropic' and friends, those are pretty technical terms and I'm not sure it makes much sense to translate them? It would be easy to add them, but somehow I wonder if this wouldn't just burden the translators and not really help the players
As for 'Guest' I am not sure, looking at the game everything seems ok, would need to dig deeper to see what is the problem

To be honest, I don't really agree with that... There are certainly translations for these in at least Dutch ("anisotropisch", "bilineair", "trilineair") and I guess also many other languages...
As you see, the English originals would still be understandable to Dutch people, since there is almost no change. But at least I would (if I saw these terms appear in English) think that the translation was just missing some strings.

Yes, I don’t really understand why you, Auria, even start arguing here. An unstranslatable string is simply a bug in my opinion. And bugs have to be fixed. Just because a term is technical does not mean that it can’t be translated.

Alright, I have marked bilinear/etc. as translatable. Not sure whether this will occur for 0.8.1 however since in theory we are in string freeze (Joerg?)
As for "Guest" I haven't really investigated yet

Okay I have fixed the "guest" problem. This one will not be live when switching between languages however, it will only update after restarting STK

Hi,
we have just updated the pot file on launchpad with the missing strings, so all ready to go to finish the translations now

Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Cheers,
Joerg

Okay, those 6 strings are updated in the German translation.

While we're speaking of strings, after this release we should make a review of strings that need to be switched to ngettext for proper plurals. Here's some:

You completed the intermediate challenge! This trophy is worth %i points

GunChleoc, I'm afraid this may not be happening soon, because we are not using gettext and I am not sure that the tool we are using (tinygettext) supports this at all

I know
Widelands are using it and they are using C++ and Lua. Maybe talk to SirVer over there and ask how they've done it?

The question here is not that we don't know how it could be accomplished, it's more than we have a lot on our plates, and supporting languages with special plurals is not really near the top of it, sorry (we have pretty limited development resources and we need to prioritize what we implement very much, otherwise we would never have a game at all)
