Suggestions for STK

First of all, I have to say that this game is just awesome. I've been a fan to this style of game since the first MarioKart, and I just loved everything. I can barely wait to play it online with my friends.

Well, after playing a fair amount of games on this style, I want to suggest some feats to help make this the best Kart game ever (and I really mean it, this game can get there!). So here we go:

- create different atributes for each pilot, or at least for each pair of pilots (mainly speed, turn and acceleration).

- insert another giant bowling ball (could be from another color) that hits everyone till it gets to the first kart (unavoidable).

- insert an item that makes you invisible.

- insert a weapon that makes you invincible, maximise the kart's atributes and gives turbo speed (like the star from Mario Kart or the mask from Crash Team Racing).

- make the kart go faster during jumps (more fun), because actually it looks like the kart decelerates while in the air.

- insert a weapon that stops the other racers completely.

- increase the parachute's time to make it worth it more (its too fast).

- insert a weapon that act as a shield (a temporary and a permanent one)

- raise the odds to give the last karts better weapons, thus balancing the game.

- add a championship mode where you can choose how many tracks, which tracks, number of laps for each one and normal/reverse modes.

- add a combat mode in closed arenas.

- add the possibility to enable/disable weapons or change their effects and save it in a profile (like in worms 2).


Sorry for this last one, maybe it doesn't belong to the post, but it is just an idea and it is a hell of a good one. I just can't let it pass:

- in the far future, please, consider the possibility of making a game with airplanes, like Skydrift/Freaky Flyers/Diddy Kong Racing. It's the only possible game funnier than kart games, and there are so few of them.

Hello MagnetoRN, here are my 2 cents on your ideas:

- insert a weapon that makes you invincible, maximise the kart's atributes and gives turbo speed (like the star from Mario Kart or the mask from Crash Team Racing). I'm personally not a fan.

- make the kart go faster during jumps (more fun), because actually it looks like the kart decelerates while in the air. This might be nice.

- insert a weapon that stops the other racers completely. We can adjust the parachutes a bit.. we don't actually want 100 items with almost the same use.

- increase the parachute's time to make it worth it more (its too fast). I agree on that.

- insert a weapon that act as a shield (a temporary and a permanent one) Is being worked on. (Bubble-gum shield)

- raise the odds to give the last karts better weapons, thus balancing the game. Is already there.

- add a championship mode where you can choose how many tracks, which tracks, number of laps for each one and normal/reverse modes. Something like that has been there before. It's likely that that might come back with LAN.

- add a combat mode in closed arenas. We already have 3 strikes battle?

- add the possibility to enable/disable weapons or change their effects and save it in a profile (like in worms 2). I am a fan of this, though I recall the main developers aren't.


Of course the main issue as always is time and developers. Feel free to learn C++ and help us out ;)

Thank you for your opinions, Uni.

I just wanted to make clear that my ideas about a giant ball that hits everyone, a super atributes invinvibility, and a time stopping clock were not meant jut to create new items, but to insert at leas 1 or 2 items that could effectively provide a table turn that would really allow the last racers get to the first place. Items like these would be given only to the last places.

The way the game is now, if a character gets a 6 seconds delay, is very, very hard to get to first place again because the only item that really helps on a situation like that is the parachute and the computer is hardly affected by it. Sometimes it just opens and closes almost immediately. Maybe someone doesn't like this direction in the game, but to me it is much more fun when you play with friends of different skills and all of them have a real chance to win and the first place is constantly switched between all players at some point.

Also, I've player a little more, and I have 3 more things to add:

- Maybe there isn't really a need for so many bananas on the tracks. If they were replaced by items, it would be better, because the damage would be caused by the oponents (and the item transformation weapon would even be more effective). Tracks free of obstacles, or with big and few obstacles (like a rolling boulder, a trong wind, or a animals at some part of the tracks), always proved to be the funniest tracks in the kart games history.

- The walls have a too strong grip to the Kart. If you hit a wall in any angle, it is most certain that the wall will stop tha kart completely. It could be a fairly weaker grip.

- A weapon like a bomb in the form of an item, to fool the other racers, would be awesome.

You can be sure that when I have the time (I'm currently studying 8-10h/day for a civil service exam), I'll help in anyway I can, and that includes re-learn C++, just to help you.

I was thinking this morning we should make something like a "Ghost potion" :) -> Your kart is transparent (with a light white halo) but not invisible, the kart isn't "solid": you can go throw the others like a ghost, of course you can't be touch by other weapons, the kart isn't slow down by sand and other grounds. The effect should last 7 seconds.

I had the idea of the bubble gum protecting you and tuxfan is coding this feature. I will re-make my new icon.

This can be done with ease in a config file. Depending on your relative position, there are different probabilities for each item, and you can change that at will.
Example:

Same goes for your custom grandprix suggestion, it is just a matter of quickly editing a config file.

There has been some work on that so it will probably come

This is actually already the case

There is already one, although human players are required for this, as we don't yet have an AI for this
