how to install?

What distro of Linux are you running? You downloaded the source code.

stked: no, the source is "supertuxkart-0.6.2a-src.tar.bz2". "supertuxkart-0.6.2a-linuxi486.tar.bz2" is the static binary for Linux, I believe

masoko: I do not have the linux binary at hand, but I believe it contains a .sh script to launch the executable (but I'm not sure, I'm not the one who made this package). Depending on your linux distribution, there may be other packages, too

Seems like STK is in the mint repos : http://linuxmint.com/software/?sec=item&id=232
However they don't say which version, hopefully it's the latest one (but seeing the date I sort of doubt so)

But to run the package you downloaded, simply open a terminal, cd into the supertuxkart directory, and run ./run_game.sh (maybe double-clicking run_game.sh will work too, but that's less sure)

sudo apt-get install libglut3

But I agree with Auria, I think you should install STK with the Mint repository :
