Idea For A New STKAddons GUI

Idea For A New STKAddons GUI

Postby Hero » 04 Dec 2012, 17:31

Now that we have a release candidate out for 0.8 including a new main menu GUI I think we may want to change the front page stkaddons.net GUI as well. Here was my idea:

That's my idea anyway. What do you think?

It's a representation. I know the icons are a bit of scale. But is shows the idea.

What do you mean? This was made in GIMP...

I'm sorry.
(for me)

I think there's a point there. FOR YOU.

I know. :D

How is it for concept? Having the entire front page based around the GUI. Login, register and everything on the bottom bar instead of on the top in text. A link to the website in place of Add-Ons Manager.

The concept ain't bad in my opinion; I just struggle to see what benefit this will have other than being a little more consistent with the in-game GUI.

That's the only thing. Right now it's consistent with 0.7.3 and I think Stephen tried to do that but then it's only logical to keep up with the GUI. Remember what 0.6 stkaddons looked like? Like 0.6.

Sure; but function over form I'd say. Maybe if Stephen finds the time and motivation to do it.

I don't see a good reason to spend a lot of time improving the web page. Most users (at around 0.9 at least) will not need to use the web page at all, since we then will (hopefully) have a better in-game browser, in-game voting etc. And for developers it doesn't really matter. Of course, if someone has time ... ;)

Cheers,

I should also add that moving the upload and logout buttons to the bottom bar means that you'd need to return to the home page to upload or log out, or have an inconsistent UI between pages, or bring the bottom bar to every page which would be rather clunky.
