There's A Problem With Skidding

Last season STK shocked the world as Samuncle release his first nightly build enabling people to just get the latest build without having to build it themselves... Nightly!

Soon everyone (who's download succeeded) witnessed the new Skidding key replacing the old and much loved Sharp Turn.

But that wasn't the worst of it. The new "Skidding Bonus", a sort of zipper-like speed effect activates WHILE you are skidding, not after. This makes skidding extremely difficult to control.

"I've experimented with thousands of Key Combinations" said Tattletale, an STK addict. "It always happens. You get the speed during the skid. You then bail out and often land in a pond."

That should tell you what the problem is. Hope you can fix it.

I addressed that issue here with a possible idea on how to work it out: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3578

Just when I first relayed this issue to the STK team Arthur said it was impossible. I'll post screen shots as proof of the situation.

You didn't address the "Boost WHILE skidding" issue. But I like your idea and in fact it would take away this problem. Keep asking for it.

Here's a screen shot:

Here's a screenshot of skidding. As you can see in the bottom right hand corner there's a skidding boost. You can also see that I am currently skidding.

There is no boost during skidding, the particles just indicate that you'll get a boost when you stop skidding.

I experience a boost however. I cannot prove this with a screen shot but I still experience a boost.

Well nothing is impossible, there could be a bug, but what I know is that it's not likely unless one of the buttons somehow stop responding (due to Keyboards being Evil) or you otherwise stop skidding just for a moment, thus getting the built-up speed boost.

If there is a bug it would indeed be good to get it fixed because it's clearly a problem.

What difficulty are you playing at? From the speed shown in the speedometer it doesn't appear that you are getting a boost - though I have to admit that I always play with hard AI, so that might be difference on lower difficulties.

So all you do is drive around in a circle and keep on pressing skid?

Joerg

Yes I do drive around. I forget the mode (though good deduction).

It's most noticeable on mini-golf in reverse when you turn left on the slope. You try to skid and two thirds of the way through you pick up speed, go through the bushes and land in the pond.

I generally play the hardest as well but I had been rechecking Amazonian Journey for bugs a bit before. Maybe I forgot to reset the mode.

I just tried, but I couldn't find anything wrong. In the jungle track it might have been caused by coming from the grass (which has a slowdown) to the track again - you will get faster there.

Can you reproduce the problem with a single kart (with the appropriate difficulty), then when you end in the pond press F10. This will create a 'history.dat' file. Compress this file and email it to me (or post it here). Just make sure it's only a single lap (well, 2/3's of a lap ;) ).

Cheers,
Joerg

I sense the problem mostly on that stretch of Minigolf. There are other locations as well.

I will do what you mentioned soon. I don't have enough time now. :(

By the way: the problem happens OCCASIONALLY. It happens now and then but doesn't always occur.
