Give me some pointers please...

If someone would give me a shove off in the right direction, I would like to try my hand at creating a track. Any general ideas on how to go about it, and how to make it usable, please.
Thank you Guys for all the hard work. :!:

Hello,
Thank you for the link. I think my question is how to get started with making the tracks. Never done much with graphics like these and wondering if I make a track in blender first, and then where to go from there to make it functional. Basically what are the steps, A B C.
Thank's

First you need to know Blender at least a little bit.
Read http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Style_Guidelines , make a track design, and then model it in blender.
Then prepare the track for STK and export it as described in http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Tra ... 7s_Guide_2

All right, if you want the A-B-C's, best start with the beginning:
1. Start with making a drawing, preferably on a piece of paper. Mark the course clearly. And try to give a feeling for the look & feel of the proposed track.
2. Scan it and post it on this forum. People here will give you helpful pointers. And if somebody else is working on a similar idea you didn't waist any effort :)
3. Dig up a good Blender tutorial on the internet. There are many flavours of tutorials out there, find one you prefer.
4. Try to make something simple like a stick-figure or something in Blender. Be warned: The learning curve on Blender is very steep, but very rewording.
5. Using your drawing, start designing your track in blender. Use the wiki pages Auria pointed to.
6. Export it and try to run it in STK.
7. Also post the exported track on this forum. The community will help you to improve it. (Don't forget to post screen-shots to make everybody excited about the progress you made)
8. If it is good enough, post it on stkaddons.net.

As you see we have a very helpful community here, so don't be afraid to ask.

asciimonster {l Wrote}:8. If it is good enough, post it on stkaddons.net.

And even if it isn't good, you can still post what you want as long as you use suitably licensed assets in your work (and the other requirements about no material not suitable for children etc). :)

Thank you very much, that will give me a good start. Seems like Blender will give me plenty to learn... Any other tips as I go along will be appreciated.
Thank you STK family.

About licensing: it may spare you from lots of concerns if you start to write a license file as soon as you have the basic track and textures ready, instead of trying to recall later on where you found textures and/or models for your track.
And if it fits your track, it can be good to reuse models and textures from existing STK tracks, as they should already be under suitable licenses. No need to reinvent the wheel etc (unless you can make a nicer looking wheel of course). ;)

Where are the textures and accessories located to use?

You can find info about that here: http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Media_Repo
Other suggestions for places to look can be found here: http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Lic ... find_files

Note that making tracks for STK is more about modelling than about putting accessories together. I suggest you start with Blender, that may take you a couple of weeks before you feel like a comfortable beginner ;) so I suggest you start with blender without trying to make anything for STK, just learning blender
