0.7.3 steering awry

I've just downloaded SuperTuxKart 0.7.3 two days ago. I've been playing the Portable Apps version, which is 0.7.2 via WINE running under Debian Squeeze. (Crunchbang Statler to be more precise)
0.7.2 plays fine without any problems for the most part except for a few tracks that the cpu on my netbook can't handle. But on 0.7.3 (i386 static binary) the steering is not responding properly. It seem to step between discreet intervals instead of transitioning smoothly when I change the position of the analogue control. This means that I can't make subtle course adjustments anymore making it almost impossible to collect parcels or nitro. And that makes the game virtually unplayable. :(

Hi,

Auria, as I said in my post, I was using STK 0.7.2 with wine. The version of STK that is available in the Debian squeeze repos is 0.6.0
I now have the 0.7.3 static binary, and that is the one that I'm having trouble with. It seems to be that it is not responding to the controls as fast as it should. Running 0.7.2 through wine does not give any problems at all. (much to my surprise actually)

Try calibrating your gamepad/joystick. I have gamepads that were way too sensitive, but after calibrating they became much better. Hopefully in your case karts will turn more rapidly.

The issue I'm having is a latency issue rather than a sensitivity issue. I've discovered that, at times, 0.7.3 is maxing out my cpu. What I can't figure out though is why it doesn't happen everytime I play.
Anyway, the issue seems to be intermittent and I have been able to play all the tracks without problems. (just not every time)

It is more likely related to other applications you are running (music player, ...), I doubt that there is anything we can do about this.

Cheers,

There are no other apps running when I'm playing STK.
Anyway, it looks like it runs better when I'm connected to the Internet. It's when I'm offline that it slows down. It's definitely related to my cpu not being powerful enough. I just found it strange that I don't have this issue with 0.7.2
