Trouble using gamepads?

I'm an end user and enjoyer of SuperTuxKart for a while now, and with the 0.7.2 release, on Windows 7 Ultimate x64, when I use the gamepad, which I prefer to use to play (using a Logitech ChillStream controller), I prefer to have accelerate mapped to a gamepad button, instead of using the up on the controller. It seems to work fine initially, however, that is only at the beginning of the race. When it is mapped to the axis controller, it works fine, but when mapped to a button (Gampepad button 3 in my case, "blue "X" button), it appears that it starts to move forward, as if it were only one keypress, but does not continue accelerating, as if you were holding forward on the axis button when mapped there. Sorry if that is a bit confusing, but long story short, if accelerate is mapped to the axis, and use it like the default, works fine, but if mapped to button 3, it starts for a split second, then just sits there, and will not accelerate.

Any ideas on if I'm doing something wrong, will I simply need to use the keyboard, and then use a program like xpadder to map it to the controls on the actual controller, or is there a way I can get the accelerate to work when mapped to the button?

Thanks, Mapsking

Hi Mapsking,

we recently found a problem in gamepad handling that can result in this kind of issue. We should hopefully release STK 0.7.3 soonish, can you hang around a bit and test 0.7.3 when it's out?

Of course, I'll be happy to, and report back when it is out, and hope that it will be fixed. :-) I just wasn't sure if it was something I somehow messed up, in the meantime, I can use xpadder just fine for it, so no worries.

Thanks, Mapsking

0.7.3 does fix bugs in gamepads.
