Sometimes when an AI Kart cuts you, it seems like the 2 karts get glued together for a while:

The AI kart keeps steering into you and trying to cut in front of you while you keep accelerating into it, so the karts stay connected until the forces change direction and push you away from each other.
I believe some formula 1 situations look pretty similar.
