Armature animation

Armature animation

Postby STKRudy85 » 27 May 2011, 23:50

As you know I tried to add character with armature animation in Battle Space Track. I stopped my work because of this step we have to pass.

I want to use armature animation for Icetrack, in order to animate penguin, seals and bear

The armature animation isn't played in the good place and with the good scale in battle space.

it's an obstacle for my next track which will include these features.

Yes, I know about this problem; however this is VERY difficult to fix. The solution for now is to be careful that the armature stays at rotation (0,0,0) and scale (1,1,1). When we finally manage to make the script work in Blender 2.5 it will be easier to fix (because blender 2.5's feature to apply scale and rotation to armatures seems to work much better than in 2.4)

As you can see on video armature can be animated as an object and can be moved in pose mode or in object mode.
And object can be moved , and animate without parent approval

As object both can have a game logic property armature and object

Armature Object mode is better to making the path of animals, robots...
I hope we don't have to "move object and animate armature" "move and animate armature" is more simple

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this example, I tried to give game logic property to object, it didn't work, then I tried to object and armature it didn't work either, at last I tried to give it to armature and it didn't work too :?

I'm sorry Rudy, but even though I know how to animate objects in blender, I don't understand your video : it's too fast and there are no explanations.

It seems normal too me... is it not ?

Are you constrained to move the object to make decor element move ? I would think that the armature only is OK (maybe you can check some animated track as Scotland to see how it's made there ?).

What I'm trying to tell is the many possibilities to move an object by animation

1 move object
2 move armature as an object parent of another
3 move main bone which moving other so object

The good solution is the 2, that's signify that game logic property should be on bone.

Sorry, but it's the vimeo encoding 's fault

OK, got it now. But what would it concretely bring to have the bones tagged instead of the mesh ?

I don't now how , but animations have to work well and be easy to do with blender

I want to bring "my knowledge" to prevent and solve problem, today armature animation doesn't work in any track :? ?

Ok thanks. I don't know why it doesn't work, I will create a ticket and investigate

Hi,

I have investigated. I don't know why, but it works just fine in Blender 2.5.

Also I have updated the documentation at http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/Tra ... ed_Objects to mention how to animate objects with armatures

Maybe you can move to blender 2.5? it is starting to be reasonably stable

In the media repository you can find a script to convert a blender 2.4 track to 2.5 format. It's not 100% automatic so you may need to tweak a few objects but I hope it won't be too painful :)
