bug: won the race but had to race another lap

I'm on linux 64-bit, SVN version before 8701 which I updated to today.
So I was racing on Tux Tollway against 8 karts, expert mode, 5 laps. I worked my way up to the front after a couple of laps, and led the rest of the race. Nobody was even close to me as I finished the race, so right as I was going to cross the finish line and win, I was swerving around in victory. :) All of a sudden, I kept going.. it still showed lap 5/5. All of the AI karts were done with the race. I went ahead and did another lap, and came in last. !? It was really bizarre. The only thing that might have happened was that as I was swerving at the finish line I hit the guardrail... RIGHT as I was expecting it to finish. I was actually trying to jump the rail as I finished to see what would happen. :)

Well, this could happen if the finish line is short, so you don't cross it while finishing the 5-th lap. You can also have such problem on the track 'Shiny Suburbs' if you finish the lap right near the fence.

Which both *is* a bug IMO...

I agree, and this is actually not supposed to happen. Could you please put this in a ticket in trac?

Thanks!
Joerg

Hi,

can you find if some driving pattern makes this happen? I can't see any obvious cause unless you took big shortcuts, as the checklines and drivelines in tux tollway seem OK

I could reproduce the problem in shiny suburbs. My suspicion is that the kart is slightly off track (I tested it by driving to the very right of the track), and that there is a problem with the distance along track computation. I am aware of a potential issue if another part of the track would be close to the finish line (think of a U shape), but this is not the case in Shiny Suburbs.

Cheers,
Joerg

I've added it to trac (#253) - the problem is that those tracks have shortcuts, more details in the ticket.

Thanks for the report!
Joerg

Hmm well I am aware about shiny suburbs, however I was not able to reproduce the same problem in tux tollway

I could - just make sure to drive to the very left of the road (use --track-debug to see the drivelines) - you have to be off track.

Sorry, I don't have access to trac... but I was just on The Island, racing against 19 karts for 20 laps. I worked my way up to 1st by lap 6. I had to dodge a bowling ball right at the end of lap 6 at the finish line.. off to the left. And I was suddenly #19 of 20 and still on lap 6.

Ok thanks for the report, I created a ticket for this (but you only need an OpenID IIRC to login to sourceforge and post to Trac, so I think you should be able to without much pain)
