Track Boundaries

When racing, just for kicks I went right off the track at the start of the race, knowing that the track wound in a circle. I went off the track and cut right across the expanse of land till I got to the road again. Expecting some sort of fail safe mechanism to kick me to last place I was shocked to see myself in first place and continued the race unencumbered.

Just a friendly suggestion, it would be very helpful if there were boundaries around the roads of the individual tracks to stop racers from just taking advantage of their unprotected nature.

Which track was that, and what version of STK did you use? There are mechanism in place ... unless we missed them somewhere.

It was the Bovine Barnyard and it was version 0.7.1b. Any plans for online play?

I just tried it, and it didn't work for me. Main point is: was the lap counted for you? There is no point were you will be 'reset' or anything, but the lap doesn't get counted. So the moment you crossed the start line, you should have fallen back to the (most likely) last position.

Any plans for online play?

Already answered.

I couldn't do it either. But, I found I could cut across the narrow part, and then I was in the lead, but when I went over the finish line, I was sent to the back. It would be better if that was prevented.

I would also like a message ... on some tracks there may exist situations where you just don't know that you're driving a shortcut. For example, take the old island track where were some possibilities to shortcut - or Crescent Crossing where this applies as well. So, if any add-on track won't be clear enough, it would be nice to have a message appearing and/or resetting to the track.

If you find areas where valid-looking shortcuts result in losing your lap, please tell us; in these cases we need to modify the track to make it more obvious you're not supposed to take tgem

We had that previously, and people didn't like that. As a simple rule: just follow the road, and you are fine. In all cases people should already be aware that they are taking a major shortcut (you and Zillaitor both wrote that you are aware that you were taking shortcuts), so I don't think this is a major issue - just don't try to cheat :)

Minor shortcuts (like S curves in Crescent Crossing) on the other hand should not cause you to get a lap not counted. If you come across something like this, let us know, and we will fix that.
