Can't install addons

I read what it said to do on how to install addons.
I tried to move the downloaded file into the program's directory, but it won't let me.
Is there anything I can do?
I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Hi,
which directory are you talking about? And can you clarify what you mean by "it won't let me"?

http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/How ... ll_add-onsI right-clicked on SuperTuxKart, clicked Show Package Contents, double-clicked Contents, Resources, Data.
I'm unsure if it's write-protected.

Well can you describe what happens when you try to move files?
Did you instal SuperTuxKart yourself, or did another user on the same computer install it? Also, check "get Info" for that directory, "Sharing and permissions" part

Well I can't change privileges at all. Maybe it's because sharing is off. And I'm the only user.

Try to click on the "lock' icon in the lower right corner of the Get info window

compatibility issues can happen but that's not the problem here

I found a solution. by copying the program to the applications folder. Now I can install the addons.

Ok, were you on the dmg?
Then indeed you can't, a dmg is read-only; and applications are not meant to be used from the dmg, they can merely be tried, if you wish to keep an application then you need to copy it out of the dmg

This is quite unexpected ^^ Would it take a lot of time to create a shortcut in the .dmg, as we can see in some apps (with a big arrow, so people can't miss it) ?
According to
this page, it seems very easy to do. Do you want me to make a custom STK background (with the cool STK booklet

) ? It could be nice for the release

Oh, if you wish to make a custom background, go ahead and do it

I never really understood why Apple chose dmg as their standard installer, I've seen it confuse a LOT of people

I really like the concept of drag & drop to install, but I admit virtual volumes are disrupting for the majority of users.
Here is a background for the dmg. This is not the most useful thing, but it was fun to do

Hi Kinsu,
wow, great background!
However we also need to ship some readme files (especially the license) so you would need to leave some room for them

I've been wondering about this: opening the mac dmg looks quite messy, and I have the impression that most other applications contain only (at most) one additional item (in addition to the actual program). Could this perhaps be simplified? Perhaps just concatenate the text files into one, and add a kind of index at the beginning?
Cheers,
Joerg

Couldn't they be placed on the upper corners ?

Well what most applications do is they ship the files inside the main application and provide a way to see them from within the application; this is not the case with STK. But I'll think about what I can do... (though probably Credits, Changelog and About are not mandatory, as Credits can be seen in-game and the others can be seen online)

I had successfully installed the addon pack for 0.7, but can't install other addons. Is there any way to help me install them?

Many add-ons on the current add-ons website are unfortunately outdated, hopefully we can have a cleaned up version of them (add-ons are very much a work in progress at this time)
Kinsu: I'm keeping your image, on next release I'll play with it

Cool !

If you need a license, it is under CC-BY 3.0, and if you need the image to be changed, just ask.
