Hello,

I have just upgraded to STK v1.1 and am running it on a computer with
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970
CPU: Intel i7 4GHz
RAM: 8GB

But I have difficulties with the graphics details being enabled.
Current settings are
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
    <Video
        width="1920"
        height="1080"
        fullscreen="false"
        prev_width="1280"
        prev_height="720"
        prev_fullscreen="false"
        remember_window_location="false"
        window_x="-1"
        window_y="-1"
        show_fps="true"
        show_story_mode_timer="true"
        show_speedrun_timer="false"
        max_fps="120"
        force_legacy_device="false"
        split_screen_horizontally="true"
        enable_texture_compression="true"
        enable_high_definition_textures="2"
        enable_glow="true"
        enable_bloom="true"
        enable_light_shaft="true"
        enable_dynamic_lights="true"
        enable_dof="false"
        old_driver_popup="true"
        scale_rtts_factor="1.000000"
        max_texture_size="512"
        hq_mipmap="false"
        font_size="3.000000"

I thought my GPU was powerful enough so I could enable/put to max. all the settings; but when I do, the game freezes for seconds randomly.

Is this to be expected?

Many thanks for your comments

I think it's fair to say no, that is not expected.

My CPU and GPU are both far lower power than yours (my GPU is about half as fast) and I can do full 6 quality on Cocoa Temple with noticeable but playable lag. No freezing at all.
Just checking, is it fine if you have it on setting 4 or 5 instead of 6?

*edit: I'm assuming your CPU is mid or high end as it is a 4GHz i7

Hello and thank you for your reply.

I made some test, activated log to debug but did not find anything useful in the logs.

However, what I found is that the freezes (up to 20secs) will occur when I play single player. I tested with the graphic setting to 4 or 5.

If I am in multiplayer mode, 2 or 3, the freezes do not occur.

Do you guys think this is related to the NVidia driver? I running version 440.82.

Thanks for your help.

Hello All,

If it can be useful for any one; I could purchase a AMD R9 Nano 2nd hand which I could fit in my small computer living room case; and it works fine with all the graphic option enabled. So, problem solved!

I did not enable texture compression; is this enhancing the quality of the graphics?

Regards

Texture compression only decreases the graphic quality

Specifically, Texture Compression will slightly reduce the visual quality of the textures, but reduces VRAM usage, which can especially help the performance on e.g. integrated graphics (due to their low memory bandwidth).
