High score list

Would it be possible to publish (within or outside of the game) a high score list? Like a little database frontend which gives you the fastest lap time ever achieved on a certain track by someone and a high score list of the top X race times under the same general conditions (number of laps and players).

I think a high score list for online play would be cool (although I don't know how easy it would be to make). Not quite what you suggested, but a few STK players (including me) have been competing for fastest time trials and fastest time to complete the game at https://www.speedrun.com/stk ;) .

Sharing local highscores into an online database would not be a good idea because of how easy it would be to get a fake/cheated time into such a list. The time-trial records at SRC works only because video proof and manual verification exists to ensure the validity of submitted times.

Would an online leaderboard from trusted servers be possible to cheat?

How can you trust my time? I can probably (note: I've never tried) use a memory editor tool to freeze/modify the in-game timer so that it records a lower time, I can attempt to craft fake scores to send to the server, etc.
The server could be trusted, but the people sending the scores to the server may not be. I cannot immediately think of any effective way to stop them faking scores to the server.

True, though maybe the server could determine your time? But I don't know if that's worth the effort.

It may work if it's the server who submit the time (like current ranked servers)

(You record the time online with our stk servers)

Ahh, I was assuming an offline game being played then submitting a score to online. Yeah, if the server is running your game like in online races then it could be possible.
(RIP players with lag ;) )

Yes that would be the only way.
