Sound effect suggestions

I believe the game experience would be very much enhanced if there was something like a sound-barrier breaking *"CRACKABOOM* explosion sound upon cashing in on a drift boost. There could even be a louder one with crackling sounds for the long drift boost. There's gotta be a satisfying aural pay-off after hearing *screeeeeeeeeeeeeeech* for 10 seconds, ya know? Same with a draft boost... maybe a nice *woooooosh* to give the impression of flying ahead of the competition?

And menu selection sounds could also be more satisfying. So many times I press the button to continue after a good story-mode race, and then I press it a few more times as I'm not sure the button press was even registered. There's no visual flash of the button to show that I activated it, no satisfying zap-ping-chimey sound. It's honestly a bit emotionally draining, or at least, it's not energy boosting. Little things like that can make a big difference towards user experience. Make me feel excited to have made a decision :D

I've been playing this game since... wow, 2012 maybe? It's a family favorite and It's awesome to see how far it's come (Especially with controller support! All setup with no issues with version 1.0 <3). I still miss the Brad Sucks song ("Out of It") that was taken out of that snowy mountain track...

I agree that having sounds for GUI actions would be a great improvement if done well. The challenge is finding high-quality open-licensed sounds that fit well. If you can find some good, well-fitting sounds on https://opengameart.org/ or https://freesound.org/ I can make a branch that plays those sounds at the appropriate time to test them out. (It may take me some days once I get the sounds however as most of my development focus is currently on https://github.com/STK-helper/stk-code/ ... nd-padding)

Okay, I'll be looking around for some good sounds. What about modifying sounds that already exist within the game? Is that allowed?

Edit-
I found some possible menu sounds:

https://opengameart.org/content/bub-block-sound-effects Since it's a game about racing mechanical vehicles, maybe the "whirrr" sound here could be used for "cancel"
https://opengameart.org/content/funny-c ... unce-sound This could be a good sound for moving around the menus, if it's not too annoying. It has a cartoonish sound that fits the other sound effects in the game
https://freesound.org/people/CS279/sounds/202641/ This is a simple sound, could possibly be as a "confirm" sound.
https://freesound.org/people/TreasureSo ... ds/332629/ This sounds nice.

Here are a few "zoom" "boom" and "whoosh" sounds that I thought could be useful for drift boost and draft boost, with or without a little tweaking (ranked from favorite to least favorite:
Drift boost
https://freesound.org/people/beman87/sounds/162849/
https://freesound.org/people/NHMWretched/sounds/151858/
https://freesound.org/people/Benboncan/sounds/167563/

Draft boost
https://opengameart.org/content/fighter-sound (could clean up the clipping, I'm sure)
https://freesound.org/people/Benboncan/sounds/167563/
https://freesound.org/people/Robinhood76/sounds/175513/ something more subtle and windy
https://opengameart.org/content/wind-whoosh-loop even more subtle

I'm still searching for possibly better sounds.

Definitely, just as long as it sounds good ;)
