- Re shadows: my bad, indeed that wasn't activated... -_- The temple cocoa track looks even better! The only thing is that it becomes a bit too dark in some parts of the track IMHO...
- Also, BTW, why would one give the user the choice for compressed textures vs no compression? What is the point in not compressing them, is this just in the hope that this would result in better graphics? Did someone do a test comparison?
- Re translation text not fitting in the window: I have no idea if this has been entered as a bug, apparently, 326 bugs to search in...:p
- Re bomb: I remember I got the bomb by myself / going on a banana, but tried bumping on 2 other karts, and none got the bomb...

Not all drivers support compressed texture extensions (S3TC/DXT patents etc). Furthermore, compressing textures on load time causes longer loading times (in addition to PNG decompression before that) and there's also compression artifacts from having compressed textures.
It only really benefits VRAM-starved video chipsets such as those in most laptops.
