The Minimap Is Off The Maps

The Minimap Is Off The Maps

Postby Hero » 20 Oct 2012, 02:16

It seems that all the minimap icons (the karts) don't follow the the white track on the minimap. In other words the kart line is to a different scale then the graphical map. This NEEDS to be fixed before release because it is a graphical hazzard, headache and annoyance.

Do you have GLSL or openGL?

Is there anyone without GLSL or openGL? If so do they have the same problem?

I don't have GLSL on my netbook (it's to slowly so it's disabled) and I never seen this problem. You have also a black square instead a transparent background for the map. It's not normal.

What's you computer GPU ? and your CPU ?

Does the console say anything about this ? Maybe a warning or an error

Also don't forget to show us the output of
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
glxinfo | grep OpenGL

(in case you're using Linux)

I've never seen anything about it in Terminal (Command Prompt for Windows users). I have noted an occasional notice about "GLSL not found, proceeding with out". The black square (or rather box to be correct) has always been there in the Irrlicht versions (0.7.x - 0.8 SVN build). It is also behind the rotating karts in kart select. I remember Arthur had this problem in a picture on the blog. He said it had disappeared when I asked him about it.

A friend of mine also has Supertuxkart (0.7.3 Windows) and she has no problems with the square.

I'm not much of a hardware geek. I am more accustomed to software (I know this makes me rather dependent).

It looks as if the icons are scaled to their overworld scale but the map is correct. However in another older build both were off... alot.

I'm going to try scaling the window and see it this effects if. Wish me luck! ;)

You still haven't given us information about your cpu/gpu and drivers.

Sorry. I gave a reason why not:

I don't know how. If I find out I shall tell you.

Under windows, right click on 'my computer' icon and choose 'properties'. (or press win + pause break) There you'll find information about at least your cpu and ram. If you find 'device manager' button there (or just type "devmgmt.msc " in command prompt ), you'll be able to provide some more information.

Here's my graphics card name. It's the best information I can find.

NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 96) [Recommended]

Sorry I can't find anything more useful.

sorry I don't think you understand what you're talking about. GLSL and OpenGL are not a matter of either/or. You can have both, and you can't have GLSL without OpenGL. And if you run STK then you're definitely using OpenGL. And GLSL certainly has nothing to do with this

if your GPU is nvidia I suggest you try the proprietary driver instead of the default free one. how to install it is beyond the scope of this forum but you can find instructions easily on google

Hero you still don't use the edit button. Why ? It keep the topic with less post and it's easy to read. Just click on the edit button and you can edit your post.

For your problem you can see [urlhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia]here for the driver.

I think the problem is because the driver doesn't support rendering on texture and the minimap use it. If I'm right you have also bug on the menu with black background. In the kart selection for example.

To know your GPU just write this command
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
lspci -v | grep -A 12 VGA

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2)
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 248, IRQ 11
Memory at fd000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable)
[virtual] Expansion ROM at feaf0000 [disabled]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
Kernel modules: nvidia-96, nvidiafb, rivafb, nouveau

About the edit button. I admit I should have used it on the post before last. But if I use it on the entire thread people who have just come across the thread will have no idea what's happening. So the question for you would be: to what extent.

I only have black box around the karts a-rotating and the minimap.

@Auria: as far as I know I DON'T have openGL.

Now you look like a troll for me, not being able to post the output of
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
glxinfo | grep OpenGL

but being able to post the output of another command.

Pardon me?

Sorry, at that time I didn't have a guess that it was terminal.

The program 'glxinfo' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils

And no I do not want this glxinfo. I've downloaded quite a bit this month.

I may install it in November.
