Please Move Location of Lap Message

Please Move Location of Lap Message

Postby Turtle » 30 May 2011, 06:40

I finally figured out why I find old mine track so difficult. The [2, Final] Message shows up at a bad time always in this level. I think this message should be moved to the left side of the screen, or at the very top. Putting it in front of player (like a plunger to the face) is to distracting and for me, blocked me from seeing the small narrow bridge ahead. If you don't believe me, play Old Mine track with several karts and you will notice how distracting this Lap message can be.:(

I pretty agree with you, and I heard people saying that too. But I don't really know where it could be placed instead...

Integrate it with the "kart hit" messages at the bottom, so if a new message comes it scrolls up as with the other messages.

Of course, this could be a problem if one uses many karts since the message could disappear by being pushed off the list by other messages. If this could be solved somehow, I think it would be a good idea.

Maybe you could create a ticket, but indeed it's hard to find where to put it. Maybe the lap counter could simply "glow" to draw attention?

All the way at the top of the screen. Here it should at least give you 5-3 seconds to adjust your kart for whatever is ahead (unless your using zipper or too much nitro). As it is now, it only gives you 1-2 seconds in Old Mine to react to the narrow bridge.

Agree, lap counter can blink (changing its color from white to red) when you start the last lap.

Yeah, we don't need a text message to draw attention to the fact that you're running out of time (or laps, to be correct). Glowing sounds like a good idea for doing so.

The items are shown on the top of the screen, so we can't do that.

I actually prefer a message. Just a change of colour/glowing is not eye catching enough. It creates a sense of urgency which I think is nice (and also I sometimes don't really look at the lap counter, so getting this reminder is nice imho). We can certainly think of moving it around a bit, but space is limited :(

Perhaps making it two lines (so it's more like a small text block, and not a long line), and putting it somewhere closer to the nitro bar?

Cheers,

How about user configurable?

Please no, we can't make everything configurable :) it makes more code to maintain, and gives a bloated GUI (and most players use the defaults anyway)

In my opinion, the [2, Final] Message is not so bad, but "the fastest lap" message is really annoying and useless ... so maybe we can move this message to the bottom ...

Maybe instead of a message, a number of around 300x300px, with opacity 50% could pop out and be translated to the lap counter (just as Windows' windows when they are minimized to the taskbar) ?
