Unknown Horizons team looking for Godot programmers

Unknown Horizons team looking for Godot programmers

Postby Wuzzy » 20 Dec 2019, 13:35

I have recently learned that the team behind Unknown Horizons is trying to switch the engine to fifengine to Godot.

If you look at <https://github.com/unknown-horizons/> you will see this message:

Unknown-Horizons based on Fifengine is no longer in development. We are porting it to Godot Engine.
Please dont report any new bugs.
Only bugfixes will get acepted for maybe an last release.
New git repo for the Godot port is: https://github.com/unknown-horizons/godot-port

That's all I know. But I thought it was worth to mention it here.

It is a hard work, but IMHO Godot is mature for huge projects. And I think that Godot is yep packaged into Debian. This meaning a lot of years of support.

I remember that Battle for westnoth core team was thinking about Godot too.
And I have a Patreon in https://www.patreon.com/migueldedios.

Not sure why you would rewrite an extensively developed project to use another engine, but yes Godot seems quite ready for prime time.

Just installed it from the Fedora repo to toy with. Kinda needs better example programs, but that should come with time.

Well, Im currently migrating from Unity to Godot (seems that cuban developers cant use Unity, not even personal), and I think they advertise it as an engine for small to medium projects. Dont know about how good it will perform on big projects, but I do agree that it will be much better than FIFE.

Since it seems to be required for willing contributors to join those channels, i would like to know if they are bridged somewhere non discord.

Okay, thats nice.
I would use IRC/XMPP/RocketChat/Mattermost/Matrix/Gitter.
So, IRC is great. :)
