OSX testing

Postby Socapex » 23 Feb 2013, 04:13

Hello everyone, I am currently porting Valyria Tear to Mac OS X. Initial versions will not contain translations (and OSX 10.6 will never have them because of a bug with gettext).

Are you a Valyria Tear player that happens to use a mac? If so, please comment below. I will upload links to a test version on my dropbox soon. It would be very helpful to post bugs/issues on this thread. Thank you very much,
Socapex

Test versions for Mac OS X

Warning: These are in very early states, which means they could break your computer, put your house on fire, kill your cat and maybe even worst! Please play with caution ;) If you encounter bugs, you can post the crash log here, or message it too me on these forums (I think they have a personal messaging system right?).

Lion and Mountain Lion: ValyriaTear
Snow Leopard: ValyriaTear Snow Leopard

Uploaded, have fun :)

The app may crash on load if its missing a library. Very normal and expected, so just post your crash log here if that happens. Thx for taking the time.

Just downloaded and did a quick test, so far so good :)

I didn't execute in a terminal so I don't know if there any messages being shown that would be useful (does it even show anything?), I'll do that later today when I play the game for more than 5 minutes :).

So for a quick run it all worked fine, game started, sound is good, and I didn't find any errors or actions that could crash the game. I'll be playing the game with more attention later today as I was thinking of providing a translation for it.

Quick question: Are the package based against the 0.5.0 version or against HEAD?

Based against HEAD (well, the one of this weekend). That is why I am calling it a test version (not Alpha or Beta etc). When things are looking good and clean, I'll be more than happy to build using your tags :)

note that some features of the minimap might cause a break depending on what arch the Mac OS runs on.
I have very little knowledge of the Mac-world, but i do know that they are mostly all x86 arch now, which is little-endian.
The old PPC arch was big-endian -- that will possibly screw up the minimap rendering.

I have no idea if we are even going to support non- little endian archs, but just incase!

Hi all :)

I've uploaded the latest OSX package (Thanks Socapex!!) and added links on the blog.

I'll talk about that once I've found the time to make some news.
