We've had lots of discussions about this on IRC, by the way.

I support 3 names, in the following order:
  1. Terminal Overload
  2. Digital Overload
  3. Digital Overflow

That is all. :D

Not every map will be purple. :P Fr1tz said he will leave it up to the map designers. That way, we can have a clean break from the bland black-red-blue (with a dash of green and white) that plagued RotC:E maps.

I personally like the sound of Ethershift or Bitshift.

If it's not taken, even simply Ethernet could work

Those two are not too bad, but they don't mean... anything.

Ethernet would be too difficult to google because it's a widely-used term!

It doesn't really -need- to mean anything.. Also, googling ethernet already brings up ROTC:E as the top result.

Keeping a fixation on associating a name with the game's mechanics or on certain terms usually results in a bad name..

That's why I associated mine with setting! ;)

As for the Google result, well, I thought it was common knowledge by now that no-one sees the same results on Google.

What about something like «Terminal Illness» or «Terminal Station» ?

IMHO "Terminal Illness" for a game makes it sound depressing and "Terminal Station" sounds more like a train simulator ;)

The idea was to have a name with a joke based on "Terminal". "Terminal Madness" could be also fun.

Someone suggested "Lichter" and someone else suggested "Geist." How about Lichtergeists? :)

Updates (on the name and the progress in general)?

The votes are as follows right now:
Ether-Blitz: 6
rotz!: 6
Terminal Overload: 6
Digital Damage: 4
Synthetic Soul: 2
SIGETH: 0

So there's no clear favorite.

Progress in general has been slow the last week (I think I actually managed to "overwork" myself a bit), but by the end of the month the first DM map should be finished containing the battle rifle, blaster and minigun (maybe even the first disc).

Have all people eligible already voted?

An Alpha release at the end of the month sounds good ;)

Only about 1/4 of all possible votes have been cast, but it looks like all the people interested in voting have already voted (not a single vote has been cast in the last couple of days).

I vote Destructure. That has 3 votes by my count and wasn't even included in the poll!!

It wasn't included because nobody who claimed the "suggest-a-name" perk of the indiegogo campaign put it up as an eligible choice, sorry.

My suggestion "Ether-Blitz" nearly made it... oh well, Terminal Overload is fine too :)

I don’t particulary care about the name. The only thing I care about is that it has to be unique.

http://www.terminal-overload.org is online. Any ideas how to best describe the game in one sentence? The description should probably mention that it's FOSS and multi-platform, but for example: should it mention ROTC: Ethernet?
