V9-Craters (old Moon track) in [2.3]

first of all, the track has two new objects: the flag and the rover.
It also uses the gas_tank model, (if you don't have it yet, you can find the download link here: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=4957#p51176)

both new models are simple textured at the moment. so you can change this if you want.
they have no normalmaps.
ground and road need new textures and the sky could changed too.

also material settings are very simple at the moment (copied from other)
then you have to add this code to the objects_static.mat file.
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
material rover
{
   parent base
   diffuseMap rover.png
   ambient 0.90 0.90 0.95
   diffuse 0.70 0.70 0.75
   specular 0.1 0.1 0.1 32
   terrain_light_map true
}

material flag
{
   parent base
   diffuseMap flag.png
   ambient 0.90 0.90 0.95
   diffuse 0.70 0.70 0.75
   specular 0.1 0.1 0.1 32
   terrain_light_map true
}

First of all, I think the land textures could be improved. These look way too repetive to me.

Second of all, I do not think the flag should be a static object. It seems strange that you can’t toss over such a small flag.

Third of all, I think all the junk objects like crates and oil cans do not belong here. In fact, the only objects I find appropirate so far are the flag and the rover and the stones.

Fourth of all, I think the track itself is cool. That’s because I like bumpy tracks in general.

Fifth of all, the flag seems a bit small to me. Is this intended?

Sixth of all, track segment 11 has a checkpoint directly on a crossing. This is a very bad idea because this causes Stunt Rally to display “wrong checkpoint” each time you cross the crossing from the other road. So you should place this checkpoint somewhere else or remove it or whatever. Just fix it. :p

Seventh of all, just look at this:
suxfog.jpg
fog vs. background WTF

This looks so stupid how the fog ends at the contour of the land. This is not how fog works. But I fear this is not an issue that you can directly tackle with your track, but more an issue with Stunt Rally / Ogre / WhateverEngine®. :(

That’s all folks. :)

the track is not ready yet, a new scenery could use an other ground- and road-texture.

and the crates, barrels and the tank could be removed, i wanted to test how it looks here, but now i think these aren't right here.

yes, and the flag could be a bit bigger.

The track is cool. Quite bumpy, I like it.
As for the Moon scenery, hmm.. Are we making a gray moon like the earth's moon ?
Or do we go beyond that crappy rock, and have some color :) ?
Either way I find it wrong to have distance fog, on a moon, right ? It's so small that no atmosphere could exist, which then makes 2 more issues. We should have a decreased gravity in game for it. And ofc, car engines wouldn't work without atmosphere, just UV could.
Surely we need new terrain textures for this, and for sky.
I don't mind objects, you already placed them and they do add something to the track. Well wooden crates don't fit, but fuel_cans are ok, maybe we could stylize rest to be more space-like or just recolor.

Craters: “Moon” track forked

Postby Wuzzy » 13 Feb 2014, 21:34

I had a some fun with the editor. I basically just converted the scenery to Volcanic, removed most of the fog, fixed the checkpoint issue, used a second road material, removed some of the exotic objects. The heightmap and track itself remain untouched (I think). It’s amazing what you can do by just changing the textures, weather and vegetation.

You won't believe what happened to this track. Well I also think this happened naturally.
But as I was dealing with new terrain textures, I might have turned it into hell/active volcano ground.
As I was doing that, the gas tank exploded, and most boxes and grass burned out. Surprisingly barrels and car show no sign of damage from high temperature.
Ok back to reality, I'll have to do some damage, since you can just drive into that yellow craters and just fly out with boost.
Like it was said on IRC: "One does not simply drive into Mordor".

We need a 'like post' feature on here. Anyway, that looks really cool.
