GUI broke after "screenshot" (SOLVED)

GUI broke after "screenshot" (SOLVED)

Postby cimni » 25 Mar 2013, 20:34

coi do. Somehow I managed (with the help of my mouse 'extra' button) to brake the GUI permanently.

I assigned the special button to the screenshot function. It appeared as "LALT RIGHT" but, for whatever reason, I wanted to test it. So 'pressing' these keys very fast (that's what my mouse does) brakes the gui. (pe'i)

Is there a way to restart the gui?.
BTW. Where are saved the screenshots?.

Thanks.

When you mess something up, the easiest way is to remove your Red Eclipse folder in your home folder / Windows profile and let the game make a clean config so you can start over again with your configuration. If you know what you're looking for, you can open the file config.cfg and change the keybind for the screenshot there. But that won't bring back your GUI yet, so deleting your config.cfg and init.cfg might still be necessary.

Screenshots are stored in a "Screenshot" folder under your RE home folder as well. The folder will be created when you take your first screenshot.

I'm not sure what you mean with "breaks the gui". Does it disappear completely? Or what? Could you be more precise?

Screenshots are normally saved in your home directory. Where that is depends on your Operating System.

The easiest way to fix things is removing config.cfg or, if that doesn't work, init.cfg from your home directory, although knowing what exactly goes wrong may help us figure out a way to prevent this, as it will be quite tiresome to keep fixing it manually.

Edit: Ninja'd by Ulukai. Oh well.

Thanks for the answers.

I forgot to say, I'm using Windows7 and the v1.4 of RE. (sorry!)
By "breaks the gui", I meant that the in-game GUI totally disappears, but the score UI and the other menus can still be shown.

Deleting config.cfg solved the problem (didn't know where to find it). Somehow, showhud and showconsole were set to 0.

See you in-game :).

Isn't that what happens exactly shortly during a screenshot in RE?
So rapidly executing the screenshot script makes it unable to reset?
Seems like a small bugfix for the /screenshot script is needed.

Default screenshot command does not turn anything off or on.

I do remember a script in the config mentioning a 100 ms delay for toggling something.
