RE broke, re-install didn't fix it

Postby MattiasVonRosen » 16 Feb 2013, 18:17

I fiddled about with some graphics options, and when I applied them, the screen went the pure red (instead of usual glitchy white)
of the main menu but without gradient, and now that's all I can see. No main menu, nothing. The music and blip-sound when you hover
over an option still works, but it doesn't seem to react when I click it.
I think the options I changed were Anisotropic Filtering (from 2 to 0) and either
Stencil Bits or Z-buffer depth, can't recall from what to what.

I've been playing without (incomprehensible) issues for maybe a week, so the game is playable on my machine, albeit with a lot of
Flash and Fluff turned down or off.

First thing I did was search the forum and wiki but couldn't find exactly this issue.

I removed config.cfg, didn't work.
I tried to change back the opt:s through init.cfg, didn't work.
Best of all, I uninstalled and re-installed the game and IT DIDN'T WORK.

Another unrelated issue, why don't the guns fire when I press 'Fire'? There is an annoying ~100ms delay, allowing enemies to move far away long before
any shot goes off. Is this intentional?

Your problem is this:
renderer: GDI Generic (Microsoft Corporation)

Try installing video card drivers from your manufacturer. Failing that, remove init.cfg.

I thought I was supposed to use drivers from other manufacturers.

Deleted init.cfg, worked like a charm! Thank you very much for quick response and help.
