Speedrunning SuperTux

Postby MCMic » 03 Feb 2016, 20:05

Hello,

Since a few weeks I’ve been speedrunning supertux 0.4.0.
We got it under 27 minutes so far: http://www.speedrun.com/SuperTux#Any_v0.4.01

Do not hesitate to join the fun and run against us!
If you do, be sure to follow the rules and record a video.
If you got any question you can ask here.

Do not hesitate to submit your run even if you don’t get under 30 minutes the first time, my first run was 1h40!

We could start a category for forest world, but it might be better for everyone to run together for now as there is not a lot of people running this game. Don’t you prefer to start with main world ?

@MCMic well said! Also I agree until the forest world is completely stable I would vote against having it as a category. Also just beat your record by 12 seconds!

I validated your run and rejected the older one.

Now the leader board contains only valid runs, it’s better for newcomers :-)

Not much reason to reject the old one because speed run.com only displays the best run.

What time does count? The length of the video or the game time that is shown in the scoreboards? The game time doesn't depend on the lags, so it should be the same on all computers when the level is played exactly the same way.

You can see the rules at http://www.speedrun.com/SuperTux#Any_v0.4.01
We use real time, from the moment you enter the first level until the moment the Yeti is beaten.
Most games use real time, except some which have long loading times but it’s not the case here.

The speed run requires a new Profile, correct? If so, how do I make a new profile for Supertux 0.4.0?

Yes you need a new profile.
It’s explained in the guides: http://www.speedrun.com/SuperTux/guide/n1uyf
Ask if you got any question about it.

Good luck :-)

What time does the Speedrun officially start? Does it start with the Intro level, or Welcome to Antartica?

It’s explained both in the rules and in the guide I just gave you a link to:
Then you go into story mode and the story introduction should start. You can skip it by using the menu and using «Abort level».
The game should place you on the first red dot on the map, and that is when you should start the timer.

The timer starts when you enter «Welcome to Antartica» and stops when the yeti dies.
You can look at my run for an example: http://mcmic.haxx.es/speedrun/supertuxsub24.mp4

I discovered since that you can disable transitions in supertux options and save a few seconds. But I was using those transition to have the time to split, so now I’m having trouble splitting ^^

Good to see some other players are running :-)
Do not hesitate to make a valid run and post it, even 30min it’s good to have some times on this leaderboard.

(The intro does not count in the time, you can skip it by quitting the level. Carefully read instructions and look at the beginning of one of the accepted runs to understand what to do to get a valid time)

Good luck with your training!
