SuperTux Ingame Level Editor

Thank you very much for putting the level editor back into SuperTux. I am sure all this effort will soon pay off.
I haven't tried it out too much for now and I am also not sure if I really want to create my own levels for SuperTux but from what I have seen so far, the level editor seems to be pretty powerful.

It is virtually unusable in my experience.

I don't understand. I found the editor quite OK to use without any tutorial or external help or whatever. The basics were quite obvious to me.
It's not perfect; there are clearly some details which are not obvious at all, like scripting. But overall, I think this editor is far away from “virtually unusable” IMO.

Maybe you can give an explanation of what particular task you wanted to achieve and what steps you took you believed to be the correct ones to do what you want. And what went wrong by doing so.

It could be that you experience some sort of bug or have a very old version. I don't know.

Everything is just *so* unusable. I actually used it most in my tutorial videos (which shows how much I hate it) and it took ridiculously long times. The time I spent on the editor was literally well over an hour for very basic stuff.

Fedora upgraded to the latest SuperTux. Showed my oldest the editor and he had lots of fun playing with it.

Great that your son likes them. If he creates quality levels, you might wanna attach them here for the rest of the team to try out.

Hey Tobbi, i just created some blocks and would like to use 'em in the level-editor. I copied the png-file into /data/images/tiles/blocks but the blocks won't appear in the editor. What did i miss? What else is left to do to add new graphical elements.

One needs to add definitions for them to the tileset. Why would you expect the game to automatically recognize something?

Is there a howto somewhere?

You can use a scripted object for that, if you don't know how to add the tiles.

Is it possible to copy a sequence ?

For example, I create a sequence.
Then i copy it. I change it a bit - copy it agian , etc.

The Leve could call "Deja Vue" ..... or "The same -but different " :D

And... Backbutton would be nice for Level Editor

Hey,

you can select tiles with the right mouse button. Other than that, I am not sure what else there is. Back button navigation is planned, but we haven't gotten any further with it.

Actually, you can copy a sequence of tiles or one given object.

To copy a rectangle of tiles, you go into the tilegroups mode. When you drag with the left mouse button, a blue rectangle starts to appear. Now select the rectangle, you want to copy and release the right mouse button. After that it will look like the selected rectangle floats at your mouse. When you are in the red rectangle mode and you click by left button, it parses the selection to given destination. When you are in the green rectangle mode or the fill mode and you drag with the left button, it fills the given area with given pattern.

To copy objects, you go into the objects mode. There should be a black arrow on the right of the red/green-rectangle/fill tool. When you click it, it changes to the copy mode. Then you just move the object somewhere else and it makes a copy. After that click the copy mode again and it turns back into the move mode.

"When you are in the green rectangle mode...."

When i am in the green rectangle mode the editor shut down :? (crush)

The Question was more how to copy a "Sequenz" not a tilegroups.
But thanks anyway...

I've found the new ingame level editor very well made and easy to use. Especially including some extra features that the previous editors did not contain.
