Small suggestion: use ogg format. I tried to use one track for testing in Urho3D engine and got only noise. But worked perfectly after converting the track to ogg. Ogg is an open format.

I haven't received any other requests for Ogg yet, but I'll certainly keep it in mind...thanks! (P.S. if you want me to convert a track for you, let me know.)

I'll admit I haven't checked your tracks yet, but I still plan to lend it an ear :-)

But I confirm that at least for free software projects, OGG would be the reference format. MP3 is sadly encumbered with software patents in some countries, which OGG is open and completely free.

I notice a contradiction. You claim that your work is under CC BY, but then you say this:

The use of this music in any project considered to be pornographic in nature and/or violates Youtube community standards is strictly prohibited.

Well, this isn't a condition of CC BY. So which is it? Are they under CC BY, or are they under some custom license which restricts "use... in any project considered to be pornographic"?

Are you planning to use the music in anything pornographic? If not, then there's no problem.

Yes there is a problem. It makes that your music is not CC BY, because it includes restrictions that are not part of the CC BY license.
The logic between "free software" and "free culture" is that you are really free to do whatever you want with this software/music/artwork. There are no limitations apart from the ones specified by well-established licenses such as CC BY: this one adding the restriction to always credit the initial author for the work she's done.

And in any way I doubt the pornographic industry bothers with free music.

Great point...thanks.

And I've actually received emails from a couple of developers of adult-themed games asking me about using the music.

I can't help but notice that you still have the entry in your FAQ that claims to prohibit "use of this music in any project considered to be pornographic in nature" even though many people have informed you that this contradicts your licence choice. I am not a lawyer but it seems to me that there are two ways of interpreting what you are doing:

1) The prohibition is acting as an ammendement to the license. You can use whatever license you want but according to the creative commons website if you make changes then:

"you must no longer call, label, or describe the license as a “Creative Commons” or “CC” license, nor can you use the Creative Commons logos, buttons, or other trademarks in connection with the modified license or your materials. ..."

See https://wiki.creativecommons.org/FAQ#Ca ... ditions.3F . They may have grounds to ask you to remove their trademark from your site.

2) The second possibility is that the license takes precidence and your prohibition is not enforeable. In this case you are misleading users about thier rights. If this really matters a lot to you then you could reword it as a simple request "I would apprecaite it if..." but I think it would be better if you removed the prohibition completely. You shouldn't assume that the only people who would care about this are pornographers. Many people believe that releasing content with moral restrictions is a slippery slope with many unintended consequences.

Regards,
Niels

Given the choice you have apparently made you probably shouldn't be promoting your content on this site. The free in freegamedev refers to freedom (I hope) and you are promoting a restrictive license. Also this is a forum and you aren't discussing the issue either. You're asking for free marketing of your site without accountability.
