You mean a Scandinavian board. I think that term will be preferred.

Yes, as a German I detest being somehow linked to those insane guys up there.... I mean come on... first ABBA and then death metal? Please make it stop!

Scandinavian isn't an accurate term because there's this one country that mainly uses a completely unrelated orcish language despite being geographically a part of Scandinavia. No one else will understand what they say, though it might not really matter because they're more or less mute anyway. :p

So should I rename the forum to
"Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish" or
"Íslenska, Føroyskt, Norsk, Dansk, Svenska" or
"gmq" or
"North Germanic languages" or
"Scandinavian languages" or
"Nordic languages"?

Try Norwegian/Danish/Swedish or Norsk/Dansk/Svensk.

Now I need a phrase that means "open source game development" in all three of these languages :)

Spelutveckling med öppen källkod
Development of open source games

It's the best I can come up with in Swedish, my grammar is not ace class.

Alle taler Norsk! Everyone speaks Danish!

So I'll write this in English,

I don't think we are enough people speaking any of the nordic languages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Germanic_languages, to actually have a dedicated forum.

Yeah, and generally, people using the three brother languages tends to know English pretty well, since we are relatively few speakers. Spanish, Chinese, and German people to some extent (at least the middle-aged and older) are often not bilingual, since they don't need to just to go on vacation. ;)

nobody agreed to moderate other-language forums yet.

If you two and oln don't want to moderate the 'NGL' forum, we can shut it down until volunteer moderators will appear. (might be never) - it was a joke and a jokingly reaction to the joke after all :)

Of course we can moderate it; we're just afraid of not getting any work to do. ;)

I'm up for moderating anything, I like the feeling when I'm in a position of raw power! ; )

I want to write a blog post asking people to moderate int. forums. One involved moderator would be enough to create a popular language board (top 20 internet countries or top 10 languages on the internet) In general this is supposed to be an experiment. [edit: less-spread languages might require explanation of use/more mods]

Note: Having project-subforums was kind of an experiment as well, which proved to be fruitful in 33-50% of the times (see the old forums).

In 3 months we (admins, mods) would discuss the usefulness of the forums and decide whether to make them less obvious, let them stay or delete them.

Quesion: Do any moderators, admins and involved community members have any objections against executing this experiment?

Nope, but I can practically guarantee that it will not be used much.

Hi fellows, I know that I'm not very active with this community , but I follow it and I read it a lot.
Well, some members may know me from my collaborations to o.g.a. or sumwars.
I would like to help you with a Spanish forum moderation, we are a few around here, and i know people who is working with oss games/engines and just speak in Spanish, and this may be an opportunity to invite them to join to a bigger community.

Please, excuse my poor English.

Thanks.

riidom {l Wrote}:I think people who are bilingual or at least 1,5-lingual (first language+poor english) would probably just write in english, because the readership is biggest then. Having international forums would probably attract people who dont speak english at all.
I cant foresee how that would work, I just can say how I would do it. I would still write in my poor english because I know most people can read it, but I would take a look in german forums as well, because I assume that people that write there are not speaking english at all (or very bad at least), and participate there as well.
That is somehow fragmentation, but right now is the situation, that people who dont speak english, are outside - and that is fragmentation as well.

I agree with this, which is why I think it is a good idea to add forum sections for other languages.
I could moderate French, German and Esperanto (if you feel crazy enough to create a section for it :) ), although I might not always have time. I haven't been to this forum for a while now., despite following the blog. Only now starting to come back to it more often again.

===

Mi nur nun ekvizitas ĝin pli ofte denove.

@KIAaze thanks, I added you as a mod for the German forum. I will be able to co-moderate.

For French and Esperanto, we'll need another volunteer moderator for making a subforum.

farcodev: thanks! I added a forum and you and KIAaze are now moderators. One of you should create a sticky rules thread - best discuss it with one another to not do double work.

dan/nor/swe mods: can you write the phrase "Open source game development" in all three languages so I can add them as forum description please?
