I can't ascertain enthusiasm, but there has long been a big market for open source web services. WordPress and reddit are perhaps the most successful open source websites. As for web development, open source has been extremely popular there since the inception of Perl and PHP.

games now, I haven't seen any
opposition per se, though some people are still annoyed that the installation procedure is often extremely complex and that self-hosting things is not the easiest. They still stick to this desktop mantra for whatever reason though self-installation of the finished product is entirely possible.
