SuperTuxKart-Booklet-advertising materials

Postby mjminfo » 03 Feb 2011, 13:35

Hi to all,
I would like to make a booklet-advertising materials (with GIMP/Inkscape/Scribus) for STK that would be ready to go to print(commercial) and be high graphical quality for multi-purpose use.

I saw that there is an old one in the wiki * (http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/SuperTuxKart-Booklet_English )
but it's only .jpg's no source code.

Do you care to show me where I can get high-definition svg's of the current graphics (tracks/karts/etc...) used in STK ?

As for the persons who made the tracks it would be nice to have a picture of the track with or without karts on it.

Auria, would it be possible to create a new sub-dir in SVN /media called media/advert so that everyone send you the proper pictures to be put in there ?

I was thinking about making a :
- cd/dvd box cover
- Booklet instructions
- flier advertising
- cd/dvd label

all would be available in pfd and eps for easier printing.

Of course all translators would have to do their share in the translation of the materials.

any comments/ideas/feedback are welcome

* (another one more recent but still based on old versions) http://supertuxkart.sourceforge.net/SuperTuxKart-Cover

We had the same idea. During 0.6 version I made a dvd sticker included in an iso I made. I've started to work on an evolution of this work... so I've used inkscape
and layers :

1-DVD cover base type 1
2-DVD cover base type 2
3-CD/DVD sticker
3-icons and .png from game (anchor bowling bowl ...)
4-some screenshots
5-characters ( officials + addons ) side view "cutouted" détourés
6-contain windows for text or screenshot

An I want to add :
7-os icons
ImageImageImage
7-Characters front-view
8-french language

DVD cover are using flag-type background and 1 and 2 are inverted a transparent gradation green to orange can be placed over them.

I'll send you this week end all of it , if you're agree , I hope it will help you

I wanted to create something like a DVD cover customisation set. The advantage is this .svg can be easily maintained

Here I find information that config minimum is :
CPU : 1.25 GHz
Ram : 768 Mo
Graphic card : 128 Mo

sure, the more we have the better we can mix and match to finally come with something very nice.
send it my way when you feel like it.

what I was hoping to accomplish is by using the format .eps ( which is Postscript / xml) then someone could just make a batch file that takes the text from each translation file (.po) and inserts it in the appropriate field inside the .eps file.

this way we could process the cover each time we change the translations or get new ones.

I'll make a example later on, when the cover/instructions manual will be more up to date.

Jorge

PS tu peux m'envoyer le texte en français aussi si tu veux.

That Graphics card minimum is too high. I finally got my 64 MB card to run STK right at 60 fps every time.

Hi STKRudy85,

any chance to have a animated png of each character (Just the character without the kart). I mean when the character wins a race he gets animated, would it be possible to get in out of the kart and just take that animation and save it to an animated .png ( as .gif there is a problem with copyrights and licenses ?)

I could use this to make a presentation of each character in my documentation/instructions manual.

I saw that there is a b3d , but I tried to use it in Blender /Maxon BodyPaint3D but they don't know what type of format it's under :(

The ideal would be for me to know how to get the animation alone in Blender and be able to save it in: svg, animated png

thanks

I don't have time to do this.

You can find a blender file here :

mjminfo, don't try to import the B3D, simply use the original blend from the media repo

STKRudy85 {l Wrote}:And fonts ;)

in the file there is only fonts for irrlicht, where is the ttf or Opentype or type1 font or the original font ?

If I need to use those fonts in (let's say) Open Office, Inkscape, Gimp, Scribus it's only with the original fonts ( TTF, OpenType, Type1).

For Hebrew I'm aware of the high quality Culmus fonts ( http://culmus.sourceforge.net/ )

for other languages it would be nice if other translators could provide a link on where to download their language specific fonts ( opensource or free) that are of high quality so that they can be used in DTP ( Scribus) for printing purposes.
ex: printing the instructions manual or any advertising that each country would like to make ...

Thanks STKRudy85.

I would like to ask those who use a MAC, what is the step by step procedure to install STK on their OSX ?

The same for FreeBSD, Amiga, Solaris, NetBSD, OpenBSD and any other that there is a port for.

So that it could be included in the documentation.

As for Linux, it's going to be available in the repositories of the distributions, and if not then it should be available in a .DEB or .RPM
we should know where exactly and if it stays there for awhile ;)

I hope that someone will send it up to playdeb.net once it's released, so that's going to be even easier to install and be seen by a larger audience.

Please provide version of OS, as the procedure may change from each version of OS .

-=-
Auria and Joerg do you have plans to make a portable (self exe from USB key) version of STK ? can it be done ?
so that there is no need to install it in the HD but just to execute it from the disk-on-key ?
-=-

thanks,
Jorge

FreeBSD, Solaris, NetBSD, and Linux (static package):

1. Extract
2. cd STK folder
3. ./run_game.sh

FreeBSD (Package Collection):

pkg_add -r supertuxkart

OpenBSD (Package Collection):

pkg_add -v supertuxkart

NetBSD (Package Collection):

pkg_add supertuxkart

AmigaOS:

1. Extract
2. cd STK folder
3. Click on STK icon

At this stage I don't have any plans to make a self-extract version (but would welcome a patch :) ), but you can easily install it on USB key, and run it from there. If you want to keep your config files, SVN supports a 'SUPERTUXKART_SAVEDIR' environment variable, which you can set to point to a directory on the USB key.

Cheers,

Note that STK officially only supports Mac, Linux, and Windows. While we do our best to support any other platforms, we don't have any developer with access to those platforms, so we can't offer any support for them.

Hi to all,

I'm looking for the info on NOLOK, like a web page that describes the story of Nolok, where he came from etc...

Also I'm looking for .png or .svg of the topview of each track.

Anybody dare to take the challenge ?

Nolok was originally created for SuperTux I believe, so a good place to start would be here: http://supertux.lethargik.org/wiki/Nolok
Though it's not such a good start, since the page is really empty...

look here you can find old topviews :(

It's not so easy to do.
This is why I thought to make this kind of topview (but it was ignored for 0.7) :
