Question concerning planned replay support.

Question concerning planned replay support.

So there are plans for STK to eventually have a replay feature. Will these replays be future proof (examples of games with future proof demos include the various Id games (mainly because the code is 100% final) and Xonotic/Nexuiz and Worms Armageddon (both allow old demos to be played in newer versions as compatibility is retained) or will it be like Hedgewars and Red Eclipse, where a demo is almost worthless the moment a new version of the game is released?

Hi,

unfortunately I have no definitive answer to give you at this time. STK is an open-source game which is not final yet (we haven't reached 1.0 after all) so changes are always possible and may break replays. Also from time to time we do change/improve tracks, so if a track gets modified then of course your old replays on that track would no longer be relevant (and we still have quite a few older tracks that will eventually get replaced/redone). Therefore breaking is certainly possible as STK is definitely not "100% final". And open-source products are always harder to plan for, as contrarily to commercial games they don't have release dates and depend on contributions.

That being said, we also are not currently planning any major gameplay changes/breakage in the near future so I have good hopes that replays won't be broken too soon nor in the near future

Hope this helps, sorry we cannot make any promises yet
