this is the only reason i register here.

first off, i have Windows 7 64-bit. i always get an error whenever i tried to install visual studio redistributable 2015. i tried both x64 and x86 versions. here is the error log.

i know why this happens. i have Windows 7 NO SERVICE PACKS. and the redist only supports SP1 and up. i dont want to get messy with the installation.
i tried the separate installers (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=48234) and then i selected the "6.1 x64" and it doesnt work and shows the error "this update is not applicable to your computer".

so my laptop doesnt support vcredist 2015. and it means i cant play this game. the game works before in 9.0 versions. but the latest version doesnt work.
there is 2 solutions:
1.make the game revert back to using vcredist 2013
2.microsoft need to make vcredist 2015 support original win7.

no.2 will virtually never happen anytime soon. so in the next STK update (9.2) can you make the game revert back to using visual studio 2013 again, so i can play this game ?

what is the "technical" differences between these two versions (64 and 32 bit) other than they have different "bits"

Both versions (visual studio and mingw) are 32-bit. The difference is that version for winxp is compiled using mingw environment (gcc compiler) and thus it doesn't depend on visual studio runtime libraries.

Actually you can compile 64-bit version using mingw, but there are no official builds yet.

i downloaded the 32bit version and the game works fine albeit a little bit laggy (64bit version of 9.0 doesnt have this problem) and now im playing it.
after playing, i decided to "mod" the game to make the karts faster by modifying the "stk_config" file, after that, the game wont run.
i restored the original stk_config and run the game again and it works.

in 64bit version of 9.0 i can mod the stk_config and start the game with no problem. in this version when i mod the stk_config the game wont run and it doesnt give me any error, all it does it when i double click it, it shows the "loading circle on the pointer" and disappear within split-second.

why does this happen ? i want to apply my mod to the game.

1. There is no 64-bit Supertuxkart version available to download. There is:
- 32-bit version with installer, compiled using Visual Studio 2015
- 32-bit version without installer, compiled using MinGW, which is available for less typical operating systems, such as WinXP SP0, your Win7 SP0, probably Vista without service pack too.
2. It is Supertuxkart version 0.9 or 0.9.1 and not 9.0

This would be quite interesting for me because I'm not able to test it myself (my CPU is much better than graphics card). Mingw should offer satisfactory performance, but I never compared it with Visual Studio.

Modifying stk_config file should work exactly the same on both versions. Make sure that you don't change file encoding because STK is sensitive at this point.

Also if your mod is bigger than just single file, make sure that you didn't remove "supertuxkart.0.9.1" file from data directory. This file is necessary to run the game.

well, i decided to get Service Pack 1 and now i installed it and Visual Studio 2015 version works fine.
however the mod still didnt work, i create a new topic for that.

never mind the striked text. i modified the stk_config from scratch and now the game and the mod works, so this topic's problem and case is solved.
