0.8.2 and the text at the bottom of the screen

0.8.2 and the text at the bottom of the screen

Just wondering, what happened to the little race announcements at the bottom of the screen like "Nolok was bowled over by Tux" for example? I liked those- I thought they added to the gameplay quite a bit to know who you hit. Also, they were absolutely hilarious. "Tux should try rubber darts instead of bowling".

It was decided to drop this feature. If I remember correctly it was because many users did not recognize these messages in the first place. Some other users complained that they are rather distracting. Since the main goal of SuperTuxKart is to have a clean user interface, there was no place for these messages.

Correct, also they took up a lot of translation time which could be better spent translating other things.
It's a loss, but we found them all in all to be a bit of a hassle.
Hey pal, I took an oath for justice! "In happy days or tightest tights..." or something like that.

Oh well... I would have liked to just see an option to remove them instead of just removing them entirely, but then again I'm not a developer or a translator...

Peanut gallery signing off, lol

Well this seems a good idea but there is an issue with the "just put an option"
1) people will most likely never change the option. In many cases they just don't care
2) if we accept every options suggestion we will end up with a big and long list of options which would be confusing and annoying for the majority of people.
3) maybe if we have still the option: minimal UI we can use it and if minimal UI is enabled we don't show the messages. I'm not sure if the option is still there.
