Data license clarification

Hi, I'm the Fedora supertuxkart RPM maintainer, and I need some assistance. The license information for music files in 0.7.3 and 0.8 is in data/music/License.txt, and it lists a CC license for kart_grand_prix.ogg. Can you clarify which CC license is intended?

Thanks!

I'm afraid we don't know :( That Weirdwood person cannot be found, so there is no way we can clarify

Hi,

auria answered a bit too early. I've contacted the original composer (hoping that the email address is still valid). I'll let you know when we receive an update.

Cheers,
Joerg

The original composer just gave us permission to release those files under CC-BY-SA 3.0. I've updated the license in our svn trunk.

Cheers,
Joerg

hiker: I don't see any Audacity project or whatever project file that was used when composing the musics for STK in the media repo. Wouldn't it be better to ask the authors to give those files? To me CC-By-SA seems useless in such a context, as having only the ogg instead of the sources limits the range of modifications that can be done to the files...As it makes sense to have .xcf/.psd files with the layers, etc for image files in the media repo.

sorry Funto, music projects tend to be enormous in size, I don't think we're willing to host that. besides they would be made in all kinds of software we may not have

That's a bit contradictory with the open source spirit unfortunately :/
