Graphics problem after switching to Linux Mint

Postby atkins80 » 26 Nov 2015, 19:12

Hi, I just switched to Linux Mint yesterday evening and downloaded the Linux version of STK and when I go to the kart selection menu the karts are not there, you can still select a character, but when you go to play a race the graphics are all dark and the sky flickers as well, also the minimap is not there also, this is my first time using a Linux OS, I also can't seem to find the correct graphics driver as well, my specs are AMD A8 5500 APU with Radion HD Graphics for the processor and the card is Radeon HD 7560D.

I clicked on run on the AMD file and I get this error saying it can't install, it says something about character encoding and to try something else, and there are 2 other options.

Hi, try running the .run file from the command line like this:

{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
su
./AMD-Catalyst-15.9-Linux-installer-15.201.1151-x86.x86_64.run

Having to reinstall this driver again, I downloaded the same one like I did last time and ran it through the command window, but it doesn't recognize it.

The properietary AMD driver won't work with Linux Mint 18 except for hardware compatible with the AMDGPU kernel driver (yours is not; it uses the radeon kernel driver.). The Mint installer should have set everything up correctly. Could you tell us:

- Your graphical effects level in SuperTuxKart
- Your version of SuperTuxKart
- The output of
{l Code}: {l Select All Code}
glxinfo | grep OpenGL
when run in the terminal. (Note: you may have to install the mesa-utils package for this to work.)
- The contents of ~/.config/supertuxkart/0.8.2/stdout.log

This sounds suspiciously like the global illumination bug that was already fixed....

The drivers are too old, most likely. When you can, please upgrade to Mint 18 and test again.

"Low" is not very precise. Could you specify the effect level number? If it is 1 or 2, try setting it to level 3.

P.S: People will be able to help you a lot better if you answer all the questions.

I will try Linux Mint 18, but in my update manager all I see is the ability for 17.3.

Yes, they're still working on a way to upgrade from 17.x to 18. You could try a live DVD to make sure it works in Mint 18.
